Know your risks
You probably know that obesity poses multiple health risks. Defined as a Body Mass Index, or BMI, of 40 kg/m2 or more (about 80 pounds overweight for a woman and 100 pounds for a man), it can lead to chronic disability, poor quality of life and even premature death. Obesity is also associated with severe medical conditions such as degenerative joint disease, diabetes, heart disease, elevated cholesterol, stroke, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, urinary stress incontinence and even certain cancers.
