New Online Tools for Expecting Parents
WINFIELD, Ill., April 20, 2010 – Expectant parents are faced with an overwhelming range of pregnancy and parenting information – books, magazines, television and the well-meaning advice of friends and family. It can be difficult to know how to sort it all out. With free online tools, including a virtual tour of the women and infant facilities and a customized weekly pregnancy e-mail, parents-to-be at Central DuPage Hospital (CDH) need to look no further than their PC or smart phone to find the information they are seeking.
Virtual Tour of Women and Infant Services
While on-site tours of women and infant services are always recommended to expecting parents, the virtual world has made this more convenient for the discerning parent who wants to evaluate several hospitals before choosing where to deliver their baby. The tour is available for viewing at www.cdh.org/babytour.
“Since I’m the mother of a 4 year old and I work full-time, there never seems to be enough hours in the day to tour the unit,” said expecting mother Donna Kelly of Wheaton. “Being able to see how large the labor and delivery rooms are and what the mother baby rooms look like takes away some of the nervousness and allows me to focus on my new baby. The virtual tour is also a great way to show friends and family from out of town where I am delivering.”
Free, Weekly Pregnancy E-mail
Now, expecting mothers throughout the area have a free resource to guide them through their pregnancies: a weekly parenting e-mail called Moms 2b. This free service offers expectant parents customized information, news and resources from the maternal education staff. The service also allows the hospital team a way to develop a richer, more supportive relationship with their patients.
Patients can enroll at any time by going to www.cdh.org/moms2b or at CDH prenatal classes. They will start receiving weekly parenting e-mail messages as early as 7-weeks gestation, but can sign up at any stage of their pregnancy. Messages are personalized to the baby’s due date and include week-by-week information on fetal development, wellness tips and valuable resources that answer questions like: Are my baby’s eyes open yet? How do I cope with morning sickness? Where can I find more detailed information about breastfeeding?
Moms 2b also provides brief updates of the latest research on pregnancy and newborn issues in an easy-to-understand format.
